USC Women's Soccer Starts Spring with Win
COLUMBIA, SC --- It was a windy day at Stone Stadium, but that didn’t curb the excitement of the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s soccer team as they held their first spring season game against the College of Charleston.
After a 10-game fall season, South Carolina started off their spring season with a 3-0 win over the Cougars.
After much of the first half featured missed goal opportunities, with the Gamecocks totaling five shots and five corner kicks yet coming away with no goals, South Carolina’s luck changed with less than eight minutes left in the half.
With 7:34 left before halftime, Corinna Zullo put the Gamecocks up 1-0.
The 1-0 lead would hold going into the break.
The second half started slow, with both teams struggling to defend the ball.
But within five minutes the Gamecocks picked up momentum and had two goal attempts, both going over the goal.
A third of the way through the half, and three missed shots on goal later, there was a foul on the Cougars that gave the Gamecocks a free kick. Lauren Chang seized the chance and the Gamecocks scored their second goal of the game.
The Gamecocks proceeded to score one more time, leading to the 3-0 win.
South Carolina (8-3 overall, 1-0 spring season) will host Coastal Carolina on March 21, 2021 at
2 p.m. inside Stone Stadium.
