Gamecock Men's Soccer falls in exhibition with Lander

After a 3-2 season this past fall, the South Carolina men’s soccer team kicked-off their spring season on Wednesday in an exhibition match against Lander University.

Although the contest does not count towards either team’s overall record, Lander came away with a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

South Carolina came out of the gate with intense pressure to begin the match, leading to the first shot on target coming from sophomore Logan Frost. It would be the Bearcats however who would take control of the possession for the latter stages of the half with Lander’s Max McNulty sending a half-volley finish into the side netting for the game’s lone goal.

Following the loss, Gamecocks’ Head Coach Mark Benson noted the areas of improvement for his team, “We need to be more consistent. We missed too many open passes.”

South Carolina will look to build on the lessons learned from this exhibition match when they host North Florida on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Stone Stadium.
