Bryant leads Gamecocks to win over Georgia
Columbia, SC --- The South Carolina men’s basketball team broke their three-game losing streak by defeating Georgia Wednesday night at Colonial Life Arena.
The South Carolina Gamecocks cruised to a 83-58 victory over the Bulldogs.
Keyshawn Bryant, who leads the SEC in conference game scoring, shined in the win with a double-double, posting 19 pointsand 10rebounds. Alongside Bryant, Jermaine Couisnard had 18 points to top off Georgia.
The game was very tight through the majority of the first half. Both teams failed to get the ball in the net within the first 10 minutes. Across the last five minutes of the first half, the Gamecocks went on a 14-point run to lead the Bulldogs 36-26 into the locker rooms.
Coming out of halftime, the Gamecocks would continue to dominate the Bulldogs early. South Carolina’s defense held Georgia to shoot just 4-26from beyond the arc and 21-66 from the field overall. The Gamecocks were able to capitalize on Georgia’s 20 turnovers to extend their lead.
A scoring drought for the Bulldogs allowed the Gamecocks lead to grow to 20 points with just 7 minutes left of the game and South Carolina never looked back.
Wednesday’s win gave South Carolina the advantage in the all-time series with the Bulldogs, 69-68.
South Carolina (4-5, 2-3 SEC) will travel to Nashville to face the Vanderbilt Commodores (4-8, 0-6 SEC)on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
