Allen powers Gamecocks to series win over Georgia
With the home stretch of the season in sight and looking to have a strong finish in the SEC, the South Carolina baseball team took to the diamond in a rubber-match at Georgia.
Behind two home runs from junior outfielder Brady Allen, the Gamecocks earned a key SEC-series win over the Bulldogs with a 5-1 victory Sunday.
Allen, who continues to play well this season as South Carolina’s leadoff batter, hit a solo home run in the first inning and a second home run in the fifth, the later a two-run shot to centerfield.
South Carolina sophomore catcher Colin Burgess joined Allen in the home run giveaway, hitting a solo home run of his own in the fifth inning as well, his third of the season. The Gamecocks would score an additional run in the sixth en route to their 5-1 win.
Gamecocks’ starting pitcher Will Sanders allowed just one run and struck out four Georgia batters in eight innings on the mound.
South Carolina (19-7, 6-3 SEC) will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina this Tuesday for a neutral site, non-conference matchup against University of North Carolina before returning to host Missouri (10-17, 3-6 SEC) for a weekend series at Founders Park.
